Two Germans have been arrested in South Africa for illegal wildlife trade.

As the South African Ministry of the Environment announced, the two men were caught last Friday in the Northern Cape province near the border with Botswana and Namibia.

They are accused of capturing rare reptiles such as armored tails, geckos and turtles in order to smuggle them abroad and sell them as exotic pets.

Drugs were apparently also found in the men, as reported by the German press agency.

According to the ministry, the two suspects will appear in court this Monday.

Her arrest is therefore the result of cooperation between several national parks, police organizations and environmental authorities.

According to the ministry, all South African tortoise species and several lizard species are on the Cites list of endangered species.
