The ski season starts in many places - at the same time, unusually mild temperatures are announced for the coming days. But warm does not mean dry.

Warm and rainy: The weather forecast is not exactly euphoric

Weather confusion shortly before Christmas: A high pressure area over southern France and Spain allows extremely mild air to flow from the Mediterranean into Germany well into the coming week.

Especially in the northwest of the country, according to the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures will rise to around eleven degrees on Monday.

In the Rhineland, even 13 degrees can be reached locally.

"Frost occurs in the nights, if at all, only in the highest elevations," said a meteorologist from the DWD in Offenbach on Saturday.

Accordingly, the snow, which covered many regions on Saturday, is retreating almost everywhere.

Sun in the mountains

Despite the very mild temperatures, there is hardly any sunshine.

"Warm doesn't mean dry," said the meteorologist.

Because on Monday there is rain again and again, especially in the southeast, on Tuesday and Wednesday in the north and in the middle of the country.

From the middle of the week, fog or high fog forms in the lower areas, where it remains correspondingly cloudy.

After all: "The mountains, on the other hand, could well get many hours of sunshine," said the weather expert.

The DWD had issued an avalanche warning for the Allgäu.

In the Traunstein district on Friday, a 41-year-old fell into a steep gully on the summit of Hochgern and triggered an avalanche.

She was taken to hospital, seriously injured.
