A young man was fatally injured in a car accident in Saxony.
A police spokesman said the 19-year-old driver of the accident vehicle raced away from a police check in Schlettau on the night of Sunday, lost his way on the country road and hit a tree.
There were five people in the car at the time of the accident.
The 19-year-old driver and a second man of the same age were seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
A 20-year-old passenger was killed.
Two other inmates, aged 20 and 21, were slightly injured, according to police.
The police are currently investigating the exact course of the accident and checking whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
"Lost sight"
The "Bild" newspaper had reported that the Seat had been noticed by a police patrol in the village of Dörfel around two o'clock.
When the officers wanted to stop the car, the driver accelerated and drove away in the direction of Tannenberg.
"The colleagues lost sight of the fugitive in the meantime," the paper quotes a police spokesman

The police only rediscovered the vehicle after the accident had already happened.
