Urkullu trusts that the justice endorses the extension of the certificate

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has been confident this Monday that the Basque Justice will endorse the expansion of the uses of the covid certificate in the Basque Country following the criteria of the Supreme Court. At a press conference in Alp (Girona) together with the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, Urkullu explained that they have requested the use of the passport in accordance with the criteria of "proportionality, suitability, convenience and necessity", as well as the incidence accumulated.

On Friday, the Basque Government asked the Superior Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) for authorization to extend the requirement of the covid passport to access all hotel establishments, concerts and sports venues such as football stadiums and basketball halls.

For now, the covid certificate is necessary in the Basque Country to access nightlife venues and restaurants with capacity for more than 50 diners, and it has been implemented thanks to the endorsement of the Supreme Court, since in the first instance the TSJPV had rejected its use.

The EU public health agency warns that omicron is spreading across the continent faster than it is detected

Data is accumulating that the new omicron variant is spreading rapidly through European countries.

A rate that exceeds the real-time detection capacity of surveillance systems, since cases must be confirmed by genetic sequencing, a process that, due to its complexity, can take several days.

The experts consulted consider that the most predictable thing for the next few weeks is "a substantial growth in omicron detections, which has already begun to be noticed, until the new variant moves to the delta, something that could happen in about three weeks" , explains Federico García, head of Microbiology at Hospital San Cecilio (Granada), a reference for eastern Andalusia.
