Public hospitals warn health minister: "We can not guarantee adequate medical services" Israel today

The hospital administrators' request was made for a discussion in the health committee tomorrow and against the background of a clause stipulating that a finance lender was appointed to a hospital that will have a deficit of NIS 1 million. "

Twenty-six directors of public hospitals today (Monday) issued an extraordinary call to Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz, warning of "severe and extreme harm to the care of patients."

Hospital administrators also threaten that "we will not, unfortunately, be able to ensure the provision of adequate medical services that are not routine and certainly not emergency."

The principals' request was made for a discussion in the health committee tomorrow, and against the background of a section that is expected to be approved, which states that a finance minister will be appointed as an escort to the hospital, which will have a deficit of NIS 1 million.

This means that in fact all hospitals in Israel (except perhaps one hospital) will have an accompanying accountant appointed.

It should be noted that most hospitals end the year with large deficits of tens and even close to one hundred million shekels.

The managers emphasize that the health system is also budgeted at a deficit of NIS 6 billion and that most of the hospitals' revenues are dictated by the Ministry of Health anyway.

The document caused us severe disappointment at the lack of understanding of the Ministry of Health for the needs of the system over which it is entrusted. "The doctors, nurses and all other staff seem to be becoming enemies at the gate. We are the ones who have done and are doing their best to treat the public and especially during the waves of the Corona plague and therefore the proposed regulations cause severe disappointment and loss of trust."

The letter is signed by, among others, Dr. Eitan Wertheim, CEO of Beilinson, Prof. Arnon Afek, Deputy CEO of Sheba, Prof. Miki Halbertl, Director of Rambam and their colleagues.

"The dire consequences that could be caused when the need arises to deal with the fifth wave of the corona plague should not be described," the executives warn.

Dr. Yitzhak Berlowitz, former director general of Wolfson Medical Center and deputy director general of the Ministry of Health, commented on the situation and said: "
