Spanish actress Verónica Forqué has died at the age of 66.
Forqué was one of the most popular actresses in Spanish cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, especially in works by director Pedro Almodóvar.
Forqué had the title role in Almodóvar's media-critical satire "Kika" from 1994.
She also played important roles in Almodóvar's films "What did I do that?" (1984) and "Matador" (1986).
The production company El Deseo, which Pedro Almodóvar runs together with his brother Agustin, said goodbye to the actress with a message: »The gap that she leaves in our lives and in our cinema cannot be closed.
An extraordinary actress and irreplaceable person whom we have had the honor to work and share life with has left.
Have a good trip, Verónica «
The actor Antonio Banderas, who played with her in Fernando Colomo's film "Bajarse al Moro", responded to the news of Forqués' death with the comment that he considered her to be a "tender and witty" woman.
Forqué was the daughter of the director José Maria Forqué and the writer Carmen Vásquez-Vigo.
Forqué received the Goya Prize four times, including twice - in 1988 (for "La vida alegre") and 1994 (for "Kika") - for best actress.
As the news agency AFP learned from police circles, Forqué committed suicide in her apartment in Madrid.
The body was found on Monday, it said.
