Diet without animal products has been on the rise for years.
Which German city has the most vegan restaurants and bars?
Floranutris has chosen the “most vegan city in Germany”.
Berlin is the city with the most diverse vegan gastronomy.
But: In Hamburg there are most vegan restaurants per 100,000 inhabitants.
It is no longer a secret that vegan nutrition * is trendy.
A study from last year showed that 1.13 million people in Germany forego animal products in their everyday lives.
For comparison: in 2015 the number of people living vegan was 850,000.
The selection of plant-based alternatives is also growing on the shelves of supermarkets and restaurant menus.
Floranutris, a provider of vegan snacks and dietary supplements, has taken a close look at the
gastronomy
options in
Germany's 20 largest cities
and clarified where it is easiest for residents to go vegan.

Most of the vegan restaurants can be found in Germany's metropolises
The higher the population, the easier it is to
meet
the
demand for vegan nightlife
options.
The capital takes first place here: there are 3.7 million
Berliners for
every 100 purely vegan restaurants.
If bakeries, cafés, ice cream shops, market stalls and food trucks are also included, the range increases to 263 options.
Hamburg
follows a long way behind
(1.9 million inhabitants).
Vegans get their money's worth in 38 restaurants.
There are also 107 other options to fill your stomach with vegan delicacies.
Third and fourth place went to
Cologne
and
Munich
.
With 1.5 million inhabitants, the city, which is otherwise known for white sausage and a liter of beer, has three fewer purely vegan restaurants than the city on the Rhine.
Cologne has 26 and Munich 23 restaurants that cook without animal products.
In
terms of
the total number of vegan options, Munich then catches up again: All vegans can look forward to 92
purely plant-based options
.
The approximately one million Cologne residents can only do this in 60 institutions.

Hamburg leads the way in vegan restaurants per 100,000 inhabitants
Anyone who thought that Berlin would surely get the title “The Most Vegan City” is wrong. If the
total number of vegan gastro offers is calculated per 100,000 inhabitants
, the small cities drive metropolises such as Munich and Cologne out of the top five. With almost eight establishments for eating and drinking per 100,000 inhabitants, the
Hanseatic City of Hamburg
carries
the victory home to the Elbe. The underdog is just behind -
Leipzig
offers around 7.7 vegan nightlife options per 100,000 inhabitants. Another surprise candidate is
Münster
. Although it is the smallest of the 20 largest cities in Germany with around 316,000 citizens, the student paradise has 7.6 vegan restaurants, cafés and bakeries per 100,000 inhabitants up its sleeve. Berlin ranks fourth with almost 7.2 dining options with menus without animal products per 100,000 inhabitants. Hannover follows behind. Here vegans will find 6.6 vegan restaurants per 100,000 citizens.
The trend to eat healthily and therefore also vegan is growing all the time.
And even among consumers who are not exclusively vegan, meat consumption has decreased significantly and interest in plant-based alternatives has increased.
It is all the more important that this demand is not only met in metropolises.
In small towns and villages too, residents should find vegetarian and vegan options on the menus.
At Floranutris we want to be a role model and make it easier with our products to switch to a plant-based and balanced diet in everyday life.
Completely without factory farming and animal killing.
