Covid-19: overtime in hospital will be paid double

During a speech to Matignon about the health situation, Friday, December 17, 2021, Jean Castex announced the doubling of overtime at the hospital, a measure which will be effective from next Monday.

"Measures will also be deployed for our emergency services, but what our caregivers expect from us is that we be careful and especially that we vaccinate ourselves" added the head of government.

With this temporary pay increase, the government is trying to send a message of support to caregivers, particularly hard hit by the permanent influx of Covid-19 patients since the start of the pandemic.

White plan hospitals

Jean Castex recalled that almost the entire hospital system operated under a “white plan” to treat victims of the fifth wave in the best conditions.

This device makes it possible to call back staff and reorganize departments.

But with the holidays, the number of caregivers willing to come back to work is drying up.

A few days earlier, Emmanuel Macron had had a few words for the hospital staff during the program “Where is France going”, broadcast on TF1.

“I met desperate caregivers (…).

I have seen the injustices and the strength of a few women and a few men who must be helped, ”said the president about his decision to open the Ségur for health, which notably provides for salary increases.
