(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, DECEMBER 19 - The European Commission today agreed with BioNTech-Pfizer to accelerate the delivery of its anti-Covid vaccine in the Member States starting from the next few weeks.

In the first quarter of 2022, the pharmaceutical company will deliver an additional 20 million doses of the vaccine (5 million in January, 5 million in February and 10 million amarzo), in addition to the 195 million doses already scheduled, for a total of 215 million doses. to be delivered in the first months of the year.


    Brussels and the Member States have also activated a first option to order over 200 million doses under the third contract with BioNTech-Pfizer.

The deliveries of the additional 200 million doses on which the option has been placed should take place starting from the second quarter of 2022, explains Brussels, highlighting that "the order also covers vaccines adapted to the Omicron variant, should these vaccines be available".

These doses are added to the 450 million doses already planned for 2022 on the basis of the agreement already signed with the company, bringing the total number of BioNTech-Pfizer deliveries to 650 million doses in 2022. (ANSA).
