VIDEO. Grand Paris: the metro line 15 South tunnel is dug

It is "a great draft of 37 km" according to the expression used by the president of the Société du Grand Paris (SGP) Jean-François Monteils.

Line 15 South, under construction since March 2015, has been completed.

Ten tunnel boring machines have been needed to dig since April 2018, the 33 km of the line and 4 km of connections.

There are still four years of work left: finishing the stations, installing and equipping the tracks and testing the equipment for final commissioning in 2025. Initially, the project was to lead to the opening of the line in… 2022.

The opening of line 15 south is only one step in the construction of this immense ring road around Paris.

By 2030, line 15 will have to make a complete tour of the capital with its 75 km serving 36 stations and 3 departments: Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne.

"It is a project which is the largest public transport project currently in the world," explains Olivier Capitanio, president of the Val-de-Marne departmental council.

The Grand Paris Express provides for the creation of four new metro lines around the capital (15, 16, 17 and 18), serving the near and inner suburbs in addition to the extension of line 14 to the north, from Saint-Ouen- sur-Seine in Saint-Denis, and to the south, between Paris and Orly airport.
