Omicron: New Delhi bans Christmas and New Year celebrations

All events and collective celebrations for Christmas and New Year are prohibited in New Delhi. The municipal agency for disaster management of the Indian capital has made the decision known, motivating it with the threat of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, 22 DEC - All collective events and celebrations for Christmas and New Year are banned in New Delhi.


   The municipal agency for disaster management of the Indian capital has made the decision known, motivating it with the threat of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.


    The ban covers all cultural, religious, social, political or entertainment initiatives. The agency noted that there have been increasing violations of the precautionary rules against Covid on numerous recent occasions.


    There are 213 cases of Omicron in India to date, with the highest concentration in Delhi, which recorded 57 variant positives and in Maharashtra, the state of which Mumbai is the capital, with 54 cases, according to data released by the Ministry of Health.
