Joan Didion, the great chronicler of the hippie movement and one of the precursors of the New Journalism, has died at the age of 87, according to

, citing an email sent by Paul Bogaards, executive of the Knopf publishing house, where he published Didion.
Author of a dozen works of hundreds of articles, her book
The Year of Magical Thought
was her presentation to readers in Spanish.
