(ANSA) - NEW YORK, DEC 28 - The judge presiding over the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein, has ordered the jurors to extend the daily time in the council chamber.

A decision, that of Alison Nathan, linked to the leap in Covid cases.

Jurors Nathan has ordered to close the day of deliberations at 6 pm local time at least for this week until they reach a green.

So far the council chamber had closed before 5pm.

"We face the risk that jurors and trial participants will have to quarantine. Extending the deliberations by an hour gives the jury more time," explains the judge.

The jury is now on its fifth day in the council chamber.
