In China, the authorities appear to have imposed honorary sentences on several men.
As reported by the BBC, among others, four men were brought before the police in a public square in the city of Jingxi in the south of the country.
The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday.
As the broadcaster reports, the men were accused of smuggling people.
The demonstration made headlines across China and was also discussed on the Weibo social network.
Recordings show how the men in protective suits and accompanied by police officers are exposed.
According to the BBC, they were hung with signs showing a photo of their face and their names.
With the action, the authorities apparently want to send a signal against illegal border crossings and increase the pressure on the population to adhere to the measures to contain the corona virus.
China has been monitoring its borders particularly closely since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
According to the AFP news agency, the Guangxi province government announced in August that it would expose people to breaches of health rules.
Jingxi is located in Guangxi Province and is not far from the Vietnamese border.
Mixed reactions in the Chinese media
According to the BBC, the screening was also controversial in state media.
The measure "seriously violates the spirit of the law and must not be repeated," the broadcaster quoted as the "Beijing News".
Public screenings were frequent during the "Cultural Revolution" from 1966 to 1976, but recently this form of punishment has become rare.
