Without Schufa information, it is now difficult for landlords on the housing market.
There is also - which many do not know - a free variant.
The Schufa information provides information about a person's creditworthiness.
Landlords often ask for information before renting out an apartment.
The Schufa information is also available free of charge.
The housing market is highly competitive, which is why landlords can pick the best candidates from those interested.
Schufa information is often required for this.
According to the consumer advice center Bremen, this is an abuse, but tenants often have no other choice if they want to have the apartment in question.
What exactly is a Schufa information?
The Schufa information is a document that
assesses the creditworthiness of a consumer
.
The "Protection Association for General Credit Protection" receives the data from contractual partners such as banks, insurance companies or department stores and saves them.
The positive and negative entries then result in a
scoring value that classifies a person's creditworthiness
.
The higher the scoring value, the higher the creditworthiness.
Landlords want to use the Schufa information to check how solvent the future tenants are.
This is how you get the free Schufa information for the landlord
The Schufa has
been obliged to provide free information since 2010
. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done: The Schufa makes it extremely difficult for consumers to find the offer of free information on the website. As a rule, 29.95 euros are required for a Schufa credit report. The trick is not
to look for
the keyword "credit report" but for the copy of the data
. You can find this by looking on the website under "Private Customers" and then "Information". A long list of chargeable offers follows, before finally the data copy is suggested. You will find it here: https://www.meineschufa.de/de/datenkopie

Order the free Schufa information in good time
If you would like to submit a self-assessment to your landlord, you should order it in good time.
For both the paid and the free version, you have to send Schufa a copy of your identity card.
Schufa itself advises against giving the free information to third parties because it contains additional personal information and is not copy-protected.
However, you can still pass this on to the landlord.
The consumer advice center Bremen advises
to black out
sensitive data such as
account or credit card number
.
