Gathered on December 28 in Times Square to say "Good riddance!" To their worst memories of the year, the people of the Big Apple have them together


Covid, financial difficulties, health problems… If there is one day in the year when we can celebrate the departure of bad memories, it is that of “Good Riddance Day”.

Each year, in Times Square, in the heart of Manhattan, hundreds of them draw the line over the past year by throwing their worst memories on fire.

This year, we could notably read "I mean good riddance ... to the Covid ... to police brutality ... to celebrities who go into space."

“The New Year is a time to reflect on the past, saying goodbye to the things we don't want to bring in 2022, in the New Year.

It is an old Latin American tradition to burn… So we burn everything we want to leave behind in 2021 ”, explains Tom Harris, president of the Times Square Alliance, organizer of the event.

"I want to get rid of the Covid and the quarantines, so that my children can return to normal, see their friends, go out and have a social life," concludes Robin Myers, teacher.
