The senior medical officer in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district has not been vaccinated against the corona virus.
As the "Elbe-Jeetzel-Zeitung" (EJZ) reports, the physician Clemens Hanne decided against vaccination with an mRNA vaccine for purely personal reasons.
A spokeswoman for the district confirmed the report to SPIEGEL.
Clemens Hanne himself emphasizes in the article that he is not opposed to vaccination.
Vaccinations are "a great blessing for mankind and one of the greatest achievements of medicine," the doctor told the newspaper.
As reasons for not being immunized with an mRNA vaccine, he stated that the technology was new and approval was faster than usual.
Doctor would have Novavax injected
On the other hand, he would have nothing against a so-called "dead vaccine" from the company Novavax, he said.
The protein-based preparation from the US manufacturer is expected to be available in Germany from the end of February.
Lüchow-Dannenberg's District Administrator Dagmar Schulze sees no problem in this.
In the "EJZ" she explains that so far no vaccination-critical statements by the doctor or complaints from employees are known.
According to District Administrator Schulze, it is still unclear whether Hanne will remain in office when the obligation to vaccinate in the healthcare system takes effect.
According to "EJZ" research, the medical officer returned from retirement at the beginning of the year.
He took over the management of the health department in order to train a new senior medical officer for three years and then hand over the post to her.
