"Spreading Lies Around the Corona": Johnny Mitchell also removes her music from Spotify | Israel today

2022-01-29T12:22:55.446Z

The musician announced the move following the dissemination of controversial positions regarding vaccines on the streaming platform • In doing so, she joins colleague Neil Young, who launched a protest against the service following Joe Rogan's podcast

Following Neil Young's demand to remove his music from Spotify, colleague Johnny Mitchell also joins the protest.

In an act of solidarity, the musician announced that just like Young, she too does not want her music to be consumed on a streaming platform that allows what she sees as the dissemination of incorrect and unfounded information about the corona vaccine.

"I have decided to remove my music from Spotify," Mitchell wrote last night (Friday) in a statement on her official website.

"Irresponsible people spread lies that cost people their lives. I support Neil Young and the scientific and medical communities on this issue."

Last week, Spotify began removing Young's content, after the legendary musician demanded it because he refused to share a platform with Joe Rogan's podcast, one of the most popular screenings in the world.

This is in view of Rogan's controversial views on the corona vaccine, and the fact that he hosts in his program medical personnel who oppose the vaccine.

"It's Rogan or Young. Not both," the singer wrote in an open letter to his executives and his record company.

It should be noted that Rogan himself stated that he was vaccinated, and urged his listeners to go get vaccinated themselves.

After his body of work was removed from the service, many of his fans (and people who agree with his views on plague treatment) also began to seek to disengage from Spotify as well, and even initiated the hashtag "Cancel Spotify" and the call "I support Neil Young."

Canadian Young and Mitchell have been friends for more than 50 years.

According to the singer's artist page on Spotify, her work is balanced by about 3.7 million users of the service every month.

Her big hits "Big Yellow Taxi" and "A Case of You" won more than 100 million listens on Spotify.
