Who didn't want to solve puzzles, discover secrets or be a spy as a child?

Here are the 5 most exciting crime book tips for children between the ages of 8 and 12.

Be a detective for a day, like Sherlock Holmes or The Three???.

Which child does not dream of being on the trail of secrets and riddles.

We have

the 5 most exciting thrillers for children

between the ages of

8 and 12

for you .

Together with the characters you can accompany funny, exciting or scary investigations.

I browsed through the library a bit and created the following book

tip

list.

The order is arbitrary and says nothing about the quality.

Have fun reading and puzzling.

Stuart Gibbs "Spy on Probation" - Follow in the footsteps of 007 once

The cover of Spy on Probation by Stuart Gibbs © Jessica Bradley

A dream comes true for 13-year-old Ben.

When he comes home from school, there's a man sitting in the living room with the tip of his nose telling him he's a spy.

And sure enough, Ben is about to be recruited into the CIA's Spy Academy.

But what at first sounds like the fulfillment of his dreams quickly turns out to be a soap bubble.

Sometimes being a spy isn't that easy.

And so, after just half an hour at the Espionage Academy, I had learned something extremely important about her: This was not going to be a piece of cake.

Excerpt from Stuart Gibbs' Spy on Probation

A gripping book about espionage, false information and the realization that not everything is what it seems.

In the novel there is everything that makes a spy's heart beat faster: shootouts, chases and the most modern agent equipment.

The story is exciting and fluently written and peppered with unexpected twists.

I would recommend this novel to advanced readers.

Reading age

from 10 years.

Stuart Gibbs "Spy on Probation" Original title "Spy School"

Published in the original in 2012 - published in 2014 by Baumhaus Verlag, ISBN 978-3-8339-0306-9

Price: Hardcover €12.99, number of pages: 316

Fabian Lenk "FBI Junior" - The coolest detectives since there have been criminals

The cover of FBI Junior by Fabian Lenk © Jessica Bradley

Handy when you have brilliant inventor parents so you can investigate the biggest heist of all time.

So it's great that they've just invented a teleporter that beams Flint, his girlfriend Iphi and the robot boy Bucky directly to the scene: Paris.

He blinked, trying to get his bearings, and realized the teleporter had sent them down a deserted alley.

No one seemed to have noticed the friends' arrival.

Excerpt from "FBI Junior" by Fabian Lenk

A funny and exciting thriller with a lot of inventive talent.

If you don't just like puzzling, but also like tinkering, you've come to the right place.

Because robbing robots have rarely been seen and the solution is more than exciting.

Reading age actually from 8 years, but due to the complexity I would

recommend it

from 9-10 years .

It is best to read with the child so that you can answer questions directly.

It's a good introduction to the genre for beginners.

Fabian Kenk - "FBI Junior"

Published in 2018 by Thienemann Esslinger Verlag, ISBN 978-3-522-50596-3

Price: Hardcover €9.99, number of pages: 126

Frank M. Reifenberg & Gina Mayer "The shadow gang starts!"

The cover of Die Schattenbande by Frank M. Reifenberg & Gina Mayer © Jessica Bradley

What's better than being a gang of thieves and solving crimes?

Klara, Otto, Paule and Lina are the shadow gang: "We are the shadows, fast and clever, nobody ever sees them clearly".

This is their battle cry.

But when Otto is accused of murder, the shadows must act.

What do the murder of the Grand Duchess and the jewel thieves have in common?

What are the "Tears of the Tsarina"?

And why was the Grand Duchess' last word "Solyanka"?

As a pickpocket, Otto wasn't half as good as Klara, and when it came to picking a lock, Paule was far superior to him.

But nobody could fool him when it came to climbing.

Excerpt from "Die Schattenbande" by Frank M. Reifenberg & Gina Mayer

A very exciting book that is reminiscent of a touch of Baker Street mood or the spirit of Erich Kästner.

The story of the shadow gang takes place in Berlin in the 1920s.

Very easy to read with lots of comic-like drawings and short chapters.

I would put the reading age between

10 and 12 years

.

It is definitely more suitable for crime fiction professionals, i.e. experienced crime fiction readers.

Frank M. Reifenberg & Gina Mayer - "The shadow gang starts!"

Published in 2016 by Oetinger Verlag, ISBN 978-3-8415-0435-7

Price: paperback €7.99, number of pages: 240

Emma Kennedy "Wilma Tenderfoot"

The cover of Wilma Tenderfoot by Emma Kennedy © Jessica Bradley

Wilma Tenderfoot knows exactly what she wants: to escape from the children's home and become a detective!

Then she is sold to a mean old woman - but she can hardly believe her luck, because the neighbor is the famous detective Theodore P. Goodman.

A valuable diamond is stolen and the perpetrator leaves a trail of frozen hearts in his wake.

This is a case for Wilma and her dog, Pickle.

"You have permission to enter the Farlands, but are being given the insolence ban." Wilma had no idea what the insolence ban might be.

"Waving AND then asking questions..." Trevor murmured, stamping an official-looking form.

Excerpt from Emma Kennedy's Wilma Tenderfoot

The children's crime thriller is enchanting from the start and reminds a bit of Enola Holmes.

With a loose mouth and a brave heart, Wilma investigates this case.

The ten-year-old underestimates some of the dangers.

Reading age:

from 10 years

., as it is quite brutal in some places.

Here I would say that the readers should be at least advanced and familiar with the subject.

Emma Kennedy - "Wilma Tenderfoot and the Mystery of the Frozen Hearts

Published in 2011 by Dressler Verlag, ISBN 978-3-7915-1167-2

Price: Hardcover €12.95, number of pages: 266

Lisa-Marie Dickreiter & Winfried Oelsner "Max and the Wild 7" Volume 2

The cover of Max und die wilde 7 by Lisa-Marie Dickreiter & Winfried Oelsner © Jessica Bradley

After his spectacular success as a master detective, Max is finally hoping for recognition.

But since he reckoned without Ole Schröder, who throws nasty grandpa sayings at him.

And then it seems that Geroldseck Castle, the retirement home where Max and his mother live, is haunted.

Can the wild 7 solve the puzzle?

From because of mummy friend!

Ole Schröder has no idea!

Okay Vera, Horst and Kilian are old and wrinkled - but only from the outside!

Inside they are the best and coolest friends anyone could ask for!

Excerpt from "Max und die wilde 7" by Lisa-Marie Dickreiter & Winfried Oelsner

This children's crime thriller is exciting and funny.

On the positive side, seniors can be just as cool here as secret agents, famous actors and soccer professionals.

A children's thriller about the coexistence of generations, written in a way that is easy to understand and yet exciting.

Reading age

from 8 years

is quite appropriate here.

A wonderful introduction to the world of crime fiction.
