A gunman in a small village in Sweden.

This is the prelude to the thriller The Fruits You Reap by authors Hans Rosenfeld and Michael Hjorth.

My book tip.

"As you call into the forest, so it echoes out again," is a saying that many of us know.

"The fruits that one reaps" reflects exactly this sentence.

Driven for revenge, a sniper sends a village into a panic.

But that's not the only problem facing Vanja Lithner and her colleagues.

Rosenfeld & Hjorth "The Fruits That Are Reaped": About the Book

Three murders within a few days: the tranquil Swedish town of Karlshamn is gripped by terror.

Vanja Lithner and her colleagues from the Reich Murder Commission are under pressure to stop the sniper before more people are killed.

But there are no leads, no witnesses, and no clear links between the victims.

Sebastian Bergman has chosen a quieter life since becoming a grandfather.

He works as a psychologist and therapist.

But suddenly his world is turned upside down when an Australian comes to him to process his experiences during the 2004 tsunami.

In which Sebastian himself lost his wife and daughter.

Since Sebastian's former colleague killed Billy the first time, he can't stop.

Now he's going to be a father and decides never to kill again.

But circumstances do not want to allow the past to be forgotten.

How far will Billy go to avoid being held accountable?

Rosenfeld & Hjorth "The Fruits That Are Reaped": Language and Structure

At first it was very difficult for me to immerse myself in the novel.

I had trouble categorizing the characters correctly.

But from the class reunion, I got along well and was able to put myself in the characters' shoes.

Still, there were too many narrative threads for me.

Rosenfeld & Hjorth "The fruits that are harvested": My conclusion

Actually, this novel has three stories at once.

A shooter, a personal drama, and a serial killer.

It was a little too much for me.

Especially since one topic was unfortunately only dealt with to an unsatisfactory extent.

It felt like it was squeezed in.

The story could easily have been made into two novels.

Nevertheless, the novel was well written and, above all, exciting.

"The Fruits You Reap" is the seventh part of a series.

Fans of the series will definitely be delighted.

But even as a career changer, the novel is understandable, since some of the required prior knowledge is explained within the novel.
