Russian authorities have arrested two doctors after at least seven patients died after taking a fake X-ray contrast agent.
As the Russian investigative committee announced, the seven victims died between December and January after treatment in a state hospital in St. Petersburg.
Accordingly, when their esophagus, stomach and small intestine were x-rayed, instead of the approved contrast agent, they were given an industrial chemical "that was not on the official drug list and did not meet the safety standards".
According to testimonies published in the media, the victims began to feel bad just a few hours after the procedure.
According to the investigators, the head of the X-ray department and the chief physician of the clinic were arrested.
He was being investigated for "negligent manslaughter".
Controls were therefore also initiated in the company that had supplied the deadly chemical.
