(ANSA-AFP) - BANGKOK, FEBRUARY 05 - Hundreds of houses belonging to members of the Burmese resistance were set on fire recently by the security forces in the north-west of the country: eyewitnesses told the AFP news agency, confirming news of local media.

In particular, on January 31, the army carried out aid in several villages in the Sagaing region, one of the strongholds of the anti-junta resistance. Images obtained by AFP show the remains of dozens of charred houses.

In the village of Bin, security forces "fired artillery and gunshots" and then set fire to about 200 houses, said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.

In the nearby village of Inn Ma Hte, the army burned some 600 homes after regime supporters were attacked by members of the anti-junta resistance.

State TV broadcast a report on Thursday accusing the regime's opponents, nicknamed "terrorists", of setting fire to homes.
