Following allegations of anti-Semitism against employees of Deutsche Welle (DW), the German foreign broadcaster has initiated separation proceedings in five cases.
That's what DW director Peter Limbourg said in a press conference on Monday.
No information was given about the individual employees, they had already been suspended in December.
In the past few weeks, an external investigation has been underway against some employees of the Arabic editorial team and freelance DW employees abroad, after allegations became public knowledge in a report in the Süddeutsche Zeitung at the end of November.
They are said to have posted anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli statements on the Internet in recent years.
These entries were later deleted.
Ex-Federal Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger and psychologist Ahmad Mansour presented the results on Monday.
They emphasized that it was a case of isolated misconduct.
A structural anti-Semitism in the Arabic editorial team was not found.
Regardless of this, Deutsche Welle ended its cooperation with the Jordanian broadcaster Roya TV in December because anti-Israel and anti-Semitic cartoons had been circulated on social media.
The broadcaster had also revised its code of conduct.
