The public prosecutor's office in Neubrandenburg has brought charges against a police officer who allegedly abused two women and set one of them on fire.

The 56-year-old is accused of attempted murder and serious bodily harm, said a spokesman for the authority.

The crime happened on October 11th in an apartment building in Neubrandenburg.

According to the investigation, when the police officer visited, there was a dispute about the paternity of the 33-year-old victim's baby.

The policeman did not want to recognize them.

The meeting took place in the apartment of the woman's mother.

The man is said to have abused the 33-year-old and her mother and set the younger woman on fire.

She suffered extensive burns.

The suspect fled, but was seen by residents of the house and arrested without resistance the following night.

He is in custody and, according to the prosecutor, is silent on the allegations.
