In the series »Suspicion«, Uma Thurman plays the boss of an important US corporation whose adult son is kidnapped. The investigation of the crime makes for some pretty ludicrous revelations.

Actually it is self-evident and also a bit comforting that not every freshly presented series can reinvent the deep plate.

That's why we say it right at the beginning: The eight-part »Suspicion« with Uma Thurman in the role of an American super entrepreneur whose son is kidnapped, which is now presented on Apple TV +, is by no means particularly original or extra clever.

Nevertheless, the series offers highly entertaining and exciting crime material and a few really crazy twists.

In a New York hotel corridor, the surveillance cameras capture Leo Newman (Gerran Howel), the American bigwig's son Leo Newman (Gerran Howel), who apparently innocently listens to music, being knocked out and in one by gangsters who have put on masks of Prince Charles, Elizabeth II and other members of the English royal family big suitcase is taken away.

The kidnapping video quickly became a global hit on various messenger services.

The FBI and London police suspect four British men and women who were in New York at the time of the crime of complicity in the crime.

All four have apparently traveled back home.

That's why an FBI agent (Noah Emmerich as a slightly annoying roughneck) makes his way to Great Britain and investigates together with a British colleague who is played with nervous coolness by Angel Coulby.

You see the two cops confronted with suspects, who are initially presented to the viewers as almost all innocent lambs.

The beautiful Natalie (Georgina Campbell) is walking down the aisle of a church to the altar in her wedding dress when she is arrested.

The programmer Aadesh (Kunal Nayyar), who apparently comes from a poor West London background, also makes an absolutely harmless impression.

And the Oxford university lecturer Tara (Elizabeth Henstridge) is so neat and good

The art of rollercoaster storytelling

Suspicion is a thoroughly re-imagined adaptation of the 2016 Israeli series False Flag, in which five seemingly unsuspecting Israeli citizens are accused of orchestrating the kidnapping of Iran's defense minister during his state visit to Moscow.

In the old as well as in the new version, the considerable humor of the series material consists in the constant surprise of the audience with insane plot twists and turns.

All of the suspects who initially seemed so groundless suddenly appear in a dubious light, which is foreseeable for many viewers who are familiar with the crime series genre.

Because the art of rollercoaster storytelling, showing off all sorts of loopings and grotesque crashes,

Paradoxically, the »Suspicion« series is characterized by the old-fashioned virtue of a certain reliability.

There are great actresses and actors to admire, among whom the Brit Elyes Gabel, who comes from an Algerian family, stands out in the role of a feverishly unpredictable bastard.

And little by little, a not entirely surprising conspiracy unfolds in this series that has to do with the importance of the CEO played by Thurman: Her company seems to be about as powerful as Google and Facebook combined and obviously has a lot to hide .

In this thriller series, which is often amusing in its routine, there is much talk of the somewhat outdated category of "truth".
