Mourning in the ANSA family.
Cristiano Del Riccio died, for almost a quarter of a century correspondent of the agency from the United States and at the end of his career head of the editorial board of ANSA in North America.
Tuscan and very fond of him Pulicciano in the province of Arezzo where he had retired with his wife Iliana after leaving America, Del Riccio was 71 years old.
Before New York and then Washington until 2011, he had been sent to Moscow and then, in the 1980s, to London.
In 2011 he had won the Amerigo Prize awarded to reporters who contributed to a better understanding of the United States in Italy in the social, political, economic and cultural fields.
The United States, where he had arrived in 1987, had remained in his blood and on the thousand experiences in the United States he had begun to write a book, "America behind the scenes", left unfinished and full of anecdotes caught live.
A history of the USA through reports and news from the many electoral campaigns (from that of George HW Bush father against Michael Dukakis to the last one followed with the triumph of Barack Obama over John McCain), passing through the annual Oscar appointment attended for about twenty years and the great news events such as the trial against OJ Simpson, the assassination of Gianni Versace in Miami and the disappearance of Ylenia Carrisi in New Orleans, up to the Al Qaeda attacks of 11 September 2001 and the consequent attacks on Afghanistan and to the invasion of Iraq.
