A new building, a green area, many more spaces while also the museum designed by Zara Hadid becomes sustainable.

In Rome, ten years after its inauguration, the Museum of Arts and Architecture of the 21st Century becomes Large.

In the presence of the ministers Enrico Giovannini, Lorenzo Guerini and Dario Franceschini, the president of the region Nicola Zingaretti and the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the president Giovanna Melandri presents the project financed with 15 million euros of the 200 announced yesterday by Franceschini for the construction sites of culture.

"It is a challenge - says Melandri - an act of revolution".

Beside her, Minister Franceschini approves.

He too speaks of challenge.

"A great challenge for the future that we will realize in the right time".

In particular, the project involves the construction of a Maxxi Hub,

that is a new sustainable and multifunctional building that will rise in an area overlooking via Masaccio, adjacent to piazza Alighiero Boetti to which it will be connected.

The new building will have a practicable green roof also accessible from the square and also an underground parking.

To this will be added what is called "Maxxi green", an area of green equipped, productive and usable by the public.

Within the Maxxi Hub it is planned to create a research and development center in the world of art and architecture (Innovation hub), as well as a center for the restoration of the contemporary.

The other innovations envisaged by the project are the energy conversion of Zaha Hadid's building with the aim of achieving "carbon neutrality", the

The overall costs of the project, the secretary general of the Pietro Barrera Foundation explains for the Maxxi, will be 42 million euros, 37.5 of which have already been identified.

The time schedule foresees that the construction will be completed in five years by 2026. Within the 37.5 million already available there are the 15 million announced yesterday after the OK of the State Regions Conference by the strategic plan of the MIC.

Another 20 million instead come from the MIMS fund for infrastructural interventions of conservation, maintenance, redevelopment, restoration and enhancement of cultural heritage, another 2.5 million euros, finally, come from the Pnrr.

The feasibility project was carried out by Maxxi, with its own resources, during the two years of the pandemic.

The management costs for the Maxxi foundation, once the project has been completed, will be around 500 thousand euros per year (for security, energy consumption, maintenance, etc.).

The objective is to compensate them with the revenues deriving from training, research and service provision.

After the pandemic, the museum led by Giovanna Melandri is experiencing a particularly happy period: in 2021, the president anticipates, "we had more receipts than in 2019".

The month of January 2022, adds Barrera, "was the best January ever".
