An 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome, Embla Ademi, was the victim of mistreatment and bullying in Macedonia.
Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski expressed solidarity by visiting her little girl.
News media in Skopje show images of the president holding the little girl by the hand and accompanying her to school in Gostivar, her city in northwestern North Macedonia.
The episode dates back to a few days ago, with Pendarovski who also went to visit the girl's family.
"It is unacceptable to threaten and endanger children, especially when they are suffering from physical problems and developmental deficiencies," said Pendarovski quoted by the media.
In addition to enjoying the same rights as their peers - he added - children with such problems must be able to "feel the same as others everywhere, including school".
The president talked to Embla's parents, talking with them about the problems they face on a daily basis.
