(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 14 - "Yemen is experiencing one of the worst health crises" with "the population facing dramatic conditions, has no autonomy to survive and needs humanitarian aid to survive".

This is the denunciation of Federica Ferarresi, head of mission of Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

"About 50% of the health facilities are not functioning and the services that are provided are lacking - she added -. Getting treatment in Yemen has now become a luxury".

"Almost seven years after its inception, the war in Yemen, often forgotten, continues to have an enormous impact on the population. There are over 4 million internally displaced persons, with more than 20 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance", reports MSF.

"Seven years of indiscriminate attacks that have no end in sight, with the parties in conflict that have not spared not even the population and civilian structures. The health system is collapsing, drugs are lacking and most of the health structures are now unusable", continues the note from Doctors Without Borders.

The "most vulnerable subjects are women and children: in recent weeks the MSF teams have recorded a 66% increase in medical visits to children in the Governorate of Marib and a return of forgotten diseases such as cholera, measles or diarrheal diseases, as well as psychological problems", concludes Doctors Without Borders.

MSF started working in Yemen in 1986 and has been permanently present in the country since 2007.

Her teams work in 12 hospitals and provide support to 16 other health facilities in 13 governorates.
