About 10,000 filmmakers are among the members of the American Academy, which awards the prestigious Oscar - probably the most prestigious award in the entertainment industry.
In about a month and a half, when the ceremony takes place for the 94th time, a new category will enter that not those members of the academy will choose the winner - but you, the audience!
As of yesterday (Monday), Twitter users will be able to vote for their favorite films from 2021, even if those films have not received any Oscar nominations.
Surfers will have to use the hashtag #OscarFanFavorite, and the film that gets the most votes by March 3 will receive the special award along with the rest of the Academy Awards on March 27.
Surfers will also be able to choose their favorite scene, if they use the hashtag #OscarsCheerMoment - and the selected scenes will be screened during the upcoming ceremony.

But other than being able to help your favorite film from last year win the award, you might as well win the award: Three voters will win an eye-popping award - submitting an award at next year's Oscars, with all travel expenses to Los Angeles at the expense of academia.
Worth!
"Through this activity, surfers around the world will now have more opportunities to communicate with the program in real time, find a community to participate in and take part in the experience in ways they could not experience in the past," said Merrill Johnson, vice president of digital marketing at American Academy.
The academy has planned to award a similar award as early as the 2019 Oscars in order to encourage moviegoers who choose to go mainly to high-budget films to watch the ceremony, whose ratings have been steadily declining in recent years (the last ceremony has won the lowest number of viewers in Oscar history).
But after much criticism that provoked a decision, the plan was canceled - and has not been re-introduced, so far.
Will win the new category?

Meanwhile, comedians Amy Schumer ("Walking Disaster") and Wanda Sykes will host the upcoming ceremony alongside actress Regina Hall ("Little Boss"), the American news site Deadline Hollywood confirmed yesterday.
This will be the first time since the 2018 Oscars that there will be Oscars, as in the last three ceremonies only the awards were presented to the winners, performances were performed and a few passages were performed - without any facilitator leading the ceremony.
