(ANSA) - NEW YORK, FEBRUARY 17 - Donald Trump and his two sons DonaldJr and Ivanka must testify in the context of the civil action initiated by the New York prosecutor, Letitia James, on the tax practices adopted by the Trump Organization.
Inflicting the heavy slap on the former president is Judge Arthur Engoron, who denied the tycoon and his family's request to block interrogations.
The decision of the American justice came at the end of a heated virtual hearing, during which the lawyers of the two sides fought without holds barred.
Alina Habba and Alan Futerfas, Trump's lawyers, harshly attacked James, accusing her of seeking information to aid the criminal investigation of Southern District of Manhattan attorney Alvin Bragg.
However, the judge's ruling does not mean that James will automatically receive the answers he seeks from the Trump family.
The former president and his sons can indeed invoke their constitutional right not to accuse themselves, as did Eric Trump.
But they can also appeal against the decision, which forces them to be heard within 21 days, or by 10 March.
