With 25 passengers on board: the regular bus driver drives from Albania to Germany – without a break

The driver of a regular coach drove from Albania to Germany with numerous people on board - without taking a single break.

This was announced by the Coburg traffic police on Thursday, citing the man's driver card.

"Arriving instead of dying as a pure gamble" - this is how the driving style was described in the message.

Heavy traffic specialists from the police checked the bus on Thursday at the Coburg Forst Ost rest area and found various violations;

Among other things, using the driver card on which the driving and break times are stored.

According to the information, there were 25 men and women on the bus, including families with small children.

In addition, a man wanted by the public prosecutor's office was on board and is accused of staying illegally.

More details are not known.

The second driver did not observe the rest times either

The second driver also "completely disregarded" the statutory driving and rest times, according to the police.

In order to cover up the violations, he used the driver card of a colleague who was not on board.

According to the police, the bus was on international scheduled services from the port city of Vlora in southern Albania to Hamburg - that's about 2300 kilometers.

It is almost 1800 kilometers from Vlora to Coburg.

According to the cross-border agreement for bus and truck drivers, a driver can sit behind the wheel for a maximum of nine hours a day.

After four and a half hours at the latest, he has to take a 45-minute break.

This can also be divided into two breaks of 15 and 30 minutes.

According to the police report, the controlled drivers were allowed to continue their journey from Bavaria to Hamburg after a break of several hours on Thursday.

They expect a high fine, it said.

They would have paid part of it after the inspection.
