The state investigation office of Rhineland-Palatinate warns of liquid ecstasy in large champagne bottles.
It is about three-liter bottles of the "Moët & Chandon Ice Impérial" brand, which could contain a life-threatening amount of the drug, as the authority announced on Monday in Koblenz.
A bottle containing ecstasy had previously been discovered in the Upper Palatinate and in the Netherlands.
In the city of Weiden, a restaurant visitor died after drinking from it, and seven other people had to be treated in hospital.
According to previous knowledge, the bottle had been bought via an online platform.
Four people were also injured in the Netherlands.
The Dutch food authority NVWA therefore urged caution when drinking champagne.
The warning relates to bottles of Moët & Chandon Ice Impérial in a three-liter format with the product number LAJ7QAB6780004.
The liquid does not foam in the glass, the MDMA has a reddish-brown color and smells of anise, it said.
According to the state investigation office, the distribution channels for the drug-contaminated champagne are still unclear.
It is determined how the ecstasy was filled into the bottles.
