Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials will not be allowed to take part in international taekwondo events until further notice.
This was decided by the World Taekwondo Council in an extraordinary meeting called to decide the actions to be taken after the start of the war in Ukraine, all following the recommendations of the IOC and the decisions taken by other international sports federations.
The Council expressed its reluctance to penalize athletes for decisions made by their governments beyond their control but agreed that, for the safety of all participants and to protect the integrity of its competitions, this is a difficult decision. but necessary.
Following the decision not to organize events in Russia or Belarus, the reopening of the application procedure for the 2023 Taekwondo World Cup, which had been assigned to Russia, was approved.
World Taekwondo also reiterates that "Peace is more precious than triumph" along with its values of respect and tolerance.
