International aid organizations have been trying for days to alleviate the great suffering of the people in the embattled Ukraine, to provide them with food, shelter and onward travel to other European countries.

The pop singer Ikke Hipgold, who became known with hits like "I'm still swaying", is also contributing to this.

The 45-year-old, whose real name is Matthias Distel and lives in Limburg in Hesse, wants to bring hundreds of Ukrainian refugees to Germany and place them in safe custody.

"After the Russian attack on a nuclear power plant, he decided on Friday to cancel an appearance that same evening in South Tyrol and to help," his business partner Dominik de León told the dpa news agency on Monday.

Hip gold himself had already announced on Saturday that he wanted to bring 500 children to Germany with their mothers and arrange for their accommodation in families.

The transport should take place with several buses and additional vans, the singer wrote on Facebook.

“The war in Ukraine is raging.

A humanitarian catastrophe of unprecedented proportions is in full swing!«

As his business partner de Léon announced, hip gold drove to the Polish-Ukrainian border with two buses and five other vehicles on Sunday.

More vehicles were to follow.

On Instagram, the singer posted, among other things, a video of the trip to the Rzeszów reception center in Poland.

Since Friday, an "incredible" number of people have said they are willing to take in Ukrainians via Hipgold's Summerfield Kids Foundation and social media: "We've already been promised more than 1,000 beds."

Other German television celebrities are getting involved

The actor and singer

Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht

is also committed to helping those in need in the conflict.

On Instagram, Ochsenknecht advertised donations in kind such as petrol and sleeping bags.

Motsi Mabuse

, juror in the dance show "Let's Dance", also collected donations and sent them to the crisis area.

Her husband Evgenij Voznyuk is from Ukraine.

Aid organizations such as the Red Cross recently advised against driving en masse into the crisis area with private cars because numerous routes are already being used by larger aid organizations.

In the USA, Hollywood stars had recently also started large fundraisers.

Mila Kunis

and her husband

Ashton Kutcher

have already raised almost $17 million through an online fundraising platform - and want to contribute $3 million themselves.
