Russian conductor Pavel Sorokin has been dismissed from the Royal Opera House in London due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the opera house in central London told AFP on Monday.

"Given the current situation in Ukraine, it is not possible at the moment for Pavel Sorokin, conductor of the Bolshoi Orchestra, to conduct the Royal Ballet as a guest"
, explained the opera located at Covent Garden in a short statement.
The Royal Opera House in London had already announced at the end of February that it had canceled, for the same reasons, performances of the famous Bolshoi Ballet scheduled for this summer.
Born in Moscow, Pavel Sorokin began working as a ballet pianist for the Bolshoi Theater in 1983 and became a conductor there in 1989. He made his Royal Ballet debut in 2007 directing
Swan Lake
and has since worked regularly for the company.
He has also conducted the orchestras of the Paris Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington.
