The Menorcan doctor who recorded 94 women with hidden cameras installed in the changing rooms and toilets of the Mateu Orfila Hospital in Maó and in his own home has accepted a sentence of five years in prison for crimes of discovery and revelation of secrets.

In the trial held this Wednesday at the Provincial Court of Palma, the doctor has accepted a consent agreement reached between his defense and the Prosecutor's Office for which he will also compensate the victims with 270,000 euros.

The accusations appreciate that the doctor suffered at the time of the events from a voyeurism and adaptation disorder, for which they have significantly reduced his initial request of 10 years in prison.

They have also applied the mitigating circumstance of repairing the damage, since before the trial he had allocated 50,000 euros to pay possible civil liabilities.

The case was uncovered when a nurse discovered a hidden camera in one of the toilets of the health center.

The doctor, a specialist in the area of intensive medicine, had been secretly recording during the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. He placed the recording and image reproduction devices inside the changing rooms and female toilets of the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Mateu Orfila of Mahón.

There he managed to capture images of the health professionals and of the people admitted to the unit, making a total of 1,672 video fragments that affect 76 women.

He took advantage of the fact that the victims used these rooms to change their clothes and hid the cameras in the upper part of the changing room lockers and in the trash can, inside a cardboard box wrapped in black plastic.

The doctor took advantage of his work to freely enter and leave the changing rooms and toilets, both for the staff and the public bathrooms, and even took the keys that were in the common office of the service personnel of the unit to make a copy and be able to continue entering the locker room.

The condemned man not only installed cameras in the hospital, but also captured images using devices installed in the bathroom of his house.

He took the opportunity to place the mobile phone in the trash can or the shower in the bathroom used by visitors.

There he captured images of 11 other people.

He also recorded a colleague under her skirt during a meeting at the health center.
