Anyone who has a mini-job should know what they are entitled to.

Don't forget: Mini-jobbers also pay in for old age.

There's so much money in it.

450-euro jobs are in demand, but one should not forget the pension.

So much in advance:

Mini-jobbers can apply to their employer for exemption from compulsory insurance.

This is then binding until the end of the employment relationship.

However, this step is not recommended in many cases - after all, mini-

jobs

also pay for old age.

The time in the mini job is later counted towards the minimum insurance period for a pension.

Retirement provision: 450-euro job also counts for pension

In principle, mini-jobs have been subject to compulsory insurance in the statutory pension

insurance

system since 2013.

In concrete terms, this means: With an

income of 450 euros

, that is

16.20 euros a month

, as the German Pension Insurance Association explained in a report by the German Press Agency (as of March 2021).

The

employer

bears the majority of this amount at 15 percent.

As a mini-jobber, you usually pay an additional 3.6 percent of your salary into the pension insurance system, the report said.

The advantage is that the

time in the mini

-job  is later counted towards the

minimum insurance period for a pension

, as dpa wrote.

This applies to the

old-age pension

as well as to a possible

disability pension

and a

survivor

's pension .

Apart from that, the contribution period also counts for

rehabilitation services

: "Anyone who has paid compulsory contributions to the pension fund for at least six months in the last two years can apply for rehabilitation through the pension insurance system," wrote dpa.

Parents with a 450-euro job: is it worth paying contributions?

According to the pension insurance, paying contributions is particularly worthwhile for parents with a mini

-job : between the child’s third and tenth birthday – the “child consideration period” – their contributions would be increased by up to 50 percent when calculating the pension, according to the report.

For the pension, the job on a 450-euro basis counts as much as if it had brought in up to 675 euros a month.

And

mini-jobbers

should also know that: According to today's values, the later old-

age pension

increases by

a year in the mini-job that is subject to compulsory insurance

by 6.67 euros per month.

According to dpa, that's 80.04 euros a year and thus 37.08 euros more than if you didn't pay in yourself.

Mini-jobbers also benefit from the Riester pension

What about the

Riester pension

?

Here, too, mini-

jobbers

would benefit if they paid into the

pension fund

, according to the council.

"Due to their low income, they only need to pay a small personal contribution to the Riester pension here," wrote dpa.

This is particularly favorable for mothers and fathers*, since they also receive child allowances in addition to the basic state allowance.

And what does it mean for

pensioners

if they work a

mini-job

after the regular retirement age and pay their own contributions?

According to the report, the calculation goes like this: With a monthly income of 450 euros and a contribution payment of 16.20 euros, the pension increases by around 5 euros after one year.
