Designed as a tool for cultural decentralization at the service of a mining area hit by the end of its industrial history, the Louvre-Lens celebrates its 10th anniversary with brilliance.
Throughout 2022, festive and cultural events are planned to mark this anniversary.
The year is doubly prosperous for the region, since it will celebrate at the same time the 10th anniversary of the listing of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining area as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Museum of Ixelles and the Louvre-Lens distinguished for their action in favor of cultural openness
By way of symbol, the unprecedented loan by the Louvre of the
Crouching Scribe
, whose installation in Lens was made in the presence of the President of the Republic and the President of the Hauts-de-France region, on February 3.
This masterpiece of ancient Egypt now opens the Galerie du Temps.
It will remain there until the end of the year, accompanying visitors as they dive into an exhibition recounting the great saga of Champollion and hieroglyphics.
This will be both sharp and accessible, confirming the hallmark of this museum.
Being one with its territory, it tirelessly pursues a policy of proximity, leaving its doors wide open to all those who want to come.
Over the past ten years, a number of partnerships have been forged with local players, companies, elected officials, schools and universities, but also Pôle Emploi agencies, social associations and hospitals.
As a result, attendance (4.5 million visitors in ten years) is both more local and above all more "democratic" than elsewhere.

250,000 Lensois have visited it, a quarter of them having even been there at least five times since it opened.
There is enough to create what the director of the museum, Marie Lavandier, calls
Louvre-Lens
“generations” .
“The museum was not put there, it was rooted”,
judge Xavier Bertrand, president of the Hauts-de-France region, the main funder of the museum.
“He undeniably has a grassroots root.”
In true politics, the latter also sees in this project the proof that
“when the State wants to register culture in the region, it can”

The Louvre-Lens, a very useful setting for major exhibitions
Ahead of it, the Louvre-Lens and its partners still have challenges to overcome, starting with the extension of tourism.
“All the inhabitants of the region must take ownership of the museum,
continues Xavier Bertrand,
then we work to attract more foreigners.”
The future extension of the Galerie du Temps, as well as a reinforced policy of loaning masterpieces, should in this respect be a shock lever.
