After a serious car accident in Berlin-Treptow with three fatalities, the driver was sentenced to five years in prison.
The Berlin Regional Court found the 22-year-old guilty of a prohibited motor vehicle race resulting in death and endangering road traffic.
In addition, the court imposed a blocking period of five years on the driver's license of the accident driver.
The 22-year-old survived the accident on February 2, 2021 as the only one of the four occupants of the 450 hp Audi RS 5.
When driving through a 30 zone in the Treptow-Köpenick district, the man had accelerated the car to at least 130, probably even over 150 kilometers per hour.
"The defendant had the intention of achieving the highest possible speed," according to the court.
The young man wanted to impress the others.
He lost control, the car first crashed into trees on the road.
Then the car crashed into a construction container with such force that it tore and burst into flames.
One man died at the scene of the accident, a second a few hours later.
The third occupant was taken to a special clinic with severe burn injuries, where the 19-year-old succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
The court's verdict fell short of the prosecutor's request.
This had demanded six years and seven months in prison.
The defense attorney had pleaded for a guilty verdict of involuntary manslaughter without a specific motion.
