For years, HSV professional Bakery Jatta has been accused of forging his identity - wrongly, as a court ruled. The public prosecutor does not want to accept that.

The Bakery Jatta case is richer by a chapter: The Hamburg public prosecutor's office has lodged a complaint against a court decision in the case, as a spokeswoman for SPIEGEL confirmed.

In December last year, the Hamburgers brought charges against the player from the second division soccer team Hamburger SV.

According to the authorities, he should be Bakary Daffeh, who is two and a half years his senior.

The soccer professional had been accused of offenses against the Residence Act and indirect false certification.

However, the Hamburg-Altona district court rejected the opening of proceedings last week.

There is no "overriding probability" that the accused has deceived.

Jatta's lawyer Thomas Bliwier explained: "There is no suspicion and no reason for further investigations."

The public prosecutor's office sees it differently, they justify their complaints in a communication with "briefings" in the files.

Although they were included in the court decision, some of them were not known to the public prosecutor.

A spokeswoman did not want to give more details when asked.

"Witch Hunt"?

In 2019, the case caused a nationwide sensation.

The "image" had raised doubts about Jatta's identity and reported that the offensive player could be two and a half years older than assumed.

Jatta spoke of a "witch hunt" and thanked those responsible at HSV.

The club had stood behind its players.

In September 2019, the Hamburg-Mitte district office stopped investigations into Jatta.

SPIEGEL research revealed that HSV checked Jatta's past back in January 2016, but apparently found no evidence that Jatta had falsified his identity.

Jatta, who fled Gambia, was signed by Hamburg on his 18th birthday.
