Doctors expect stagnation or even “a slight increase” in hospitalizations linked to the coronavirus in the coming days, as repeated this Tuesday morning by Professor Bruno Mégarbane, head of the intensive care unit at the Lariboisière hospital in Paris, guest from Franceinfo.

Indeed, while an epidemic rebound has been observed for almost two weeks, via an increase in cases, the dynamic of the decrease in patients in hospital due to Covid-19 could in turn come to an end.

According to figures from Public Health France (SPF) for this Tuesday, 20,919 people are hospitalized while being positive.

They were 21,899 a week ago and 20,925 yesterday.

There are 1,553 new entries this Tuesday, against 1,312 a week ago.

But on average over a week, this figure is up 6%.

The number of #Covid patients admitted to hospital each day symbolically goes back above 1,000 this evening, up 6% over one week (data by date of declaration).

Among these hospitalized, there are 1,783 patients treated in critical care services (2,036 seven days ago), which receive the most serious cases.

A number down 12% over one week.

141 new patients had to join these services on Tuesday.

They were 125 to follow the same (sad) path last week.

Admissions to critical care which decrease by only 2% over one week.

In the past 24 hours, 146 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded by French hospitals.

In total, more than 140,300 people have died from Covid-19 in France since the start of the epidemic.

25% increase in the number of new cases

In terms of contamination, the increase also continues, with 116,618 new cases recorded on Tuesday, against 93,050 last Tuesday, an increase of 25%.

However, this increase is less strong than a week ago for three consecutive days.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 54,258,893 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 80.5% of the total population), including 3,000 on Tuesday, and 53,327,011 people now have a complete vaccination schedule ( i.e. 79.1% of the total population), according to figures from the Ministry of Health.

More than 39.32 million French people received a booster dose (including 16,557 on Tuesday).

On Sunday, Jean Castex announced, in an interview with Le Parisien, the opening of the fourth dose of vaccine to over 80s (having received their booster dose for more than three months) and to all residents of Ehpad, little regardless of their age.

This second recall campaign opened on Monday.

In total, around 2.5 million people are eligible, including 500,000 residents of nursing homes.
