Interns' protest: It seems - a delay in shortening the shifts Israel today

2022-03-15T21:37:06.266Z

The committee for implementing the shortening of shifts has difficulty approving an outline • Between the disputes: the salary for the interns

Many disagreements arose yesterday in the committee for the implementation of the shortening of shifts.

Among the controversies: the salary for interns after the cut.

Some of the committee participants thought that the outline conditions should be set in motion while on the move, but other factors, especially on the part of the hospital administrators, argued that without a decision on the salary, it was not possible to proceed.

It should be noted that the decision is under the authority of the Medical Association and the Ministry of Finance.

Also during the hearing, the possibility arose of postponing the validity of the order, signed by the Minister of Economy and Industry, Orna Barbibai, according to which the new outline will begin on April 1.

As you may recall, the Ministry of Health set up the team to implement the shortening of shifts, headed by the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sefi Mendelovich, which has 24 members.

Among the members: representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Medical Association, three hospital directors, senior physicians and interns.

But in recent weeks it has become clear that teamwork is far from over, and that representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Medical Association oppose its conclusions.

It is precisely the representatives of the organization that specializes in prescription, who have previously demonstrated against the apparent outline, wanting to see the move get underway, with "some improvements" later on.

Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz has announced on several occasions that "the shortening of the shifts train has started" and that he supports the move, but the Medical Association announced last week that they oppose the shortening on the grounds that it is not applicable and could cause other problems.

The Ministry of Finance also claimed that this was an unsustainable and wasteful outline for medical personnel.

The conclusions proposed by the committee chairman that the implementation of the shortening of specializations will begin in ten hospitals in the periphery, and will not begin in two hospitals in the center, as promised by the Minister of Health under pressure from the interns' organization.

The emerging outline is that in the first phase, shifts for interns, geriatrics and emergency medicine (emergency) in hospitals in the periphery will be shortened.

In the second stage, shifts in "small" specializations in the periphery will be shortened.

At the same time, by November, the method of screening in five hospitals in the center will change and the shifts in them will be shortened.
