According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, around 197,000 refugees from Ukraine have been registered in Germany since the Russian attack on Ukraine.

Several television and radio stations in Germany have therefore recently launched programs in Ukrainian that provide refugees with tips and information in their mother tongue.

Several programs are now also available in Ukrainian translation, especially for children:

  • A separate area for children in Ukrainian has now been set up in the ARD media library at 1.ard.de/ukraine-kids.

The offer includes children's programs such as "Our Sandman" and "Shaun the Sheep".

Under the title "Learn German with socks", video clips also introduce children to the German language with simple everyday situations.

  • The factual stories from the »Show with the Mouse« are now available online for Ukrainian children.

West German Broadcasting (WDR) started on Friday with several video clips of explanatory stories in a separate area within the mouse world.

The videos are highlighted in Ukrainian.

The public ARD broadcaster in Cologne told the dpa that these language versions were created especially for this purpose.

The explanatory stories deal, for example, with milk teeth, touch screens, butterflies or beavers.

The factual stories are a traditional part of the program in the »Broadcast with the Mouse« episodes.

  • Funk, the online offer from ZDF and ARD, started its own Instagram channel for Ukraine refugees under the title "How to Germany".

In Ukrainian, English and German, users get tips for finding accommodation, learn how to apply for asylum in Germany and what the current corona rules are.

The channel has been running since Wednesday and has just over 8000 followers after two days.

  • Cosmo, the international radio program of Westdeutscher Rundfunk, broadcasts a minipodcast in Ukrainian every day in the »Ukrainian Deutschlandminute«.

The program provides news, information and service for refugees and Ukrainians, according to the WDR website.

  • The TV stations RTL and ntv want to broadcast news in Ukrainian on the Internet with immediate effect.

The “Ukraine Update” can be found Mondays to Fridays on rtl.news, ntv.de and on the streaming portal YouTube, as RTL announced.

The 10-minute news will be presented by Ukrainian TV journalist Karolina Ashion.

The 46-year-old had worked for various broadcasters for more than 20 years and fled from Kyiv to Germany at the beginning of the war.

Various media had recently announced their cooperation with Ukrainian refugee journalists.

For example, the magazine »Katapult« hired 15 Ukrainian journalists at the beginning of March, who have since had their own Twitter channel.

The Bundesverband Schauspiel (BFFS), together with Verdi, ARD, ZDF, Deutschlandradio and various associations and organizations, is also planning its own online network for refugee cultural and media workers from Ukraine and Russia.

The »new-start.media« portal is to be launched in the short term to help people stay in Germany and look for work.
