Pope: Mass returns to St. Peter's Square and Via Crucis Colosseum

After two years of pandemic celebrations are back in St. Peter's Square: the Pope will celebrate Palm Sunday, April 10, and Easter Mass, April 17, in the square while on Friday April 15 there will be the Via Crucis at the Colosseum. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - VATICAN CITY, MARCH 21 - After two years of pandemic celebrations are back in St. Peter's Square: the Pope will celebrate Palm Sunday, April 10, and Easter Mass, April 17, in the square while Friday April 15 will cisarà the Via Crucis at the Colosseum.


    Therefore, the great celebrations in St. Peter's Square resume, which had not been seen since March 2020, when the Covid pandemic began.

It will begin on April 10, Palm Sunday, with the Mass at 10. The rites of Holy Week will continue on Thursday April 14 with the Chrism Mass in the Basilica of San Pietro at 9.30.

In the agenda disseminated by the Vatican press office, the Mass in Coena Domini is not indicated (during which the rite of the washing of the feet was held) that Francis, before the pandemic, always celebrated outside the Vatican, in symbolic places such as penitentiary institutions or refugee centers.

On Friday 15 April, at 5 pm, the Pontiff will celebrate the 'Passion of the Lord' in the Basilica at 5 pm, before moving to the Colosseum at 9.15 pm for the Via Crucis.


    On Saturday 16 April the Pope will celebrate Mass for the Easter vigil at 7.30 pm in the basilica.

Sunday, April 17, the Easter Mass will be again in St. Peter's Square at 10, while at 12 there will be the blessing 'Urbi et Orbi' from the central Loggia.


    On the other hand, Mass will be held on April 24th (10 am) in St. Peter's Basilica, the day dedicated to Divine Mercy.

On May 15 the celebration returns again to St. Peter's Square (at 10 am) for the canonization of some Blesseds including TitusBrandsma and Charles de Foucauld.
