The Eurojackpot reform comes into force on Friday: the maximum possible win increases, but the chances of winning decrease. This is due to a change in the game formula.

There is good and bad news for lottery fans: the Eurojackpot will have a higher main prize in the future - but the chances of winning something will be lower in the future.

From March 25, there will be two drawings per week for the international lottery, the coordinating company WestLotto announced: one drawing on Tuesday and one on Friday.

The maximum possible jackpot will also be raised from 90 million euros to 120 million euros.

But the so-called game formula is also changing: the players continue to bet five numbers out of 50, but with the so-called euro numbers they then have to bet two out of twelve instead of the previous two out of ten.

"This changes the chance of winning first place from 1:95 million to around 1:140 million," the message says.

This corresponds roughly to the 6 out of 49 lottery. The chance of winning anything at all in the Eurojackpot is reduced from 1:26 to 1:32, according to WestLotto.

The first drawing of the Eurojackpot took place on March 23, 2012.

18 countries with a total of 33 state lottery companies are now involved.
