(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, MARCH 23 - Roman Abramovich has expressed his intention to buy the Goztepe football team and would already be in contact with the representatives of the sports club to continue the negotiations.

This was revealed by the Turkish sports daily Fanatik according to which the Russian billionaire had already had contact with the majority shareholder of the Izmir football team, Mehmet Sepil, who recently resigned from the role of president of Goztepe due to repeated failures of the team that plays in the Turkish Super Lig, equivalent Serie A in the Italian league.

According to the Turkish press, Abramovich and Sepil could meet each other in the next few days to continue the negotiations.

Due to sanctions against Russia in connection with Moscow's military intervention in Ukraine, Abramovich recently put the English football team Chelsea up for sale while two of the Russian billionaire's superyachts were moored in recent days in the Turkish coastal resorts of Bodrum and Marmaris after the boats they had left European ports to avoid any measures against the marriages of the Russian oligarchs in Europe.

As Abramovich's yacht Solaris approached the port of Bodrum, a group of Ukrainians staged a protest by displaying a flag of Ukraine with the words "No to war" from a banner next to the billionaire's boat.
