(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 24 - For the 2.1 billion euros of the NRP available for the construction of new plants for the treatment and recycling of waste, the modernization of existing plants and the realization of "flagship" projects of circular economy, 4,114 proposals have come from all over Italy, for a total value of the projects of over 12 billion.

This was announced by the undersecretary of the Mite Vannia Gava presenting the national program for waste management.

From the South, 45% of the proposals drawn from the funds of the NRP (1.5 billion for municipalities and public enterprises and 600 million for private enterprises).

"It is necessary to reach an autonomy of plants at a regional and territorial level and to block 'tourism' of waste from one region to another. Having a plant resource also means not having road traffic and further pollution" noted the undersecretary. Gava presented the National Program for waste management, recalling that Europe has set 10% of waste in landfills at 2035 and that 70% of energy recovery plants are in northern Italy.

The application of the new National Plan for Waste Management, she added, "will eliminate inefficiencies and diseconomies, will truly transform waste into a problem and a resource. The Ministry for Ecological Transition and, in particular,

the departments for sustainable development and for the NRP will put in place all possible tools so that the projects are evaluated quickly and implemented as soon as possible.

This offer from the PNRR is a historic opportunity that we cannot afford to waste in delays and bureaucracy ".
