The veteran musician was hosted on a podcast by his girlfriend Doa Lipa, and told of an exciting visit he made to an orphanage in the bombed-out country and the moment he realized he wanted to be a father.

Lipa hosted her good friend

, and he said he wanted to adopt a child in a Ukrainian orphanage but was rejected because of his sexual orientation.

The successful musician said that in 2009 he visited an orphanage in the country, and fell in love with a child he met there.

"I hung out with him for hours. At the end of the visit there was a press conference, and I was asked if I was going to adopt him. The connection everyone saw that the connection between us was strong, and after a short thought I realized I would be happy to do so."

Unfortunately, John's request was denied because of his sexual orientation.

"Because I'm gay, my request was denied. After it happened, my partner

asked 'Do you want to have children?' I always objected to that, but the boy from the orphanage changed my mind. "Thanks to a little boy from Ukraine, I decided to bring children."

The couple did become parents and gave birth to two sons,

(12) and

(9) with the help of a surrogate mother.
