Good deed for Passover: Where can you deliver the clothes you do not need? | Israel today

2022-03-27T09:29:21.061Z

If you started cleaning and tidying up the closets for the Feast of Unleavened Bread, you probably organized a pile of clothes that were too old or too small.

Smell Pesach in the air, and with it the anticipation of spring - which says it's time to organize our wardrobe for the hot days.

If you add to that the annual cleaning ahead of the holiday, you will find that you have accumulated over the year, and sometimes over the years, a lot of clothes you will not wear anymore, that you planned to return to the store or site you bought them from, or belong to fashion a decade ago.

It's time to say goodbye to overloaded closets and move the clothes to those who really need them or, when it comes to really old clothes, for recycling.

Ora Korazim, Chairman of WIZO, says that clothes, new and used, can be donated to "The Clothes", a WIZO second-hand chain of stores. By volunteers.

What is worthy of sale and reuse goes into our stores, and the rest goes for recycling.

The money from the sale goes back to helping and supporting women, boys and girls from welfare. "

Following the war in Ukraine, WIZO called on all refugees to come to the branches and stock up on whatever they were missing.

"WIZO's clothing started out of a desire for help," says Korazim, "and over time they became designer boutiques at social and attractive prices. You can find pants for NIS 30-10 and dresses and shoes for NIS 40-40."

Another advantage of clothing, according to Korazim, is the employment they provide to the older population.

"The place has become valuable for our volunteers, one where they can alleviate the loneliness. We have a 92-year-old volunteer who comes in a taxi three times a week to volunteer, and shares that the meaning of her life is WIZO. One of the hard things for them was that the clothes were closed in Corona."

Another place where clothes can be delivered is the chain of second-hand clothing stores Dendasha, part of the Shkolotov group, whose employees are women with occupational barriers who are being trained to integrate them into the labor market.

"For every delivery of a garment, you receive a credit for repurchases in stores," says Hani Yitzhaki, the chain's marketing director.

Is it possible to deliver any garment or just items in good condition?

Avital Tavor, director of the Dendasha chain:

"One of the main emphases of the chain is receiving items in excellent condition, ones that you also want to buy. We do not accept torn and worn items. We also make sure that the garment arrives in perfect condition for the store buyer: ironed, washed and dry cleaned. "All items are sold online for NIS 70-20."

Rabbi Gleiberman at the Wedding Dress Studio,

Helping those in need

If you have not heard of the Lod "Hand in Hand" association, improve your luck.

The association, founded by Rabbi Yaakov Gleiberman, an ardent Chabadnik who heads it, helps thousands of families in financial distress from all over the country, with second-hand furniture, a dining room for the needy and more. "We help everyone who needs it," says Rabbi Gleiberman. Clothes, furniture, appliances and more by prior arrangement, and everything should be usable and in good condition.

We also have a wedding dress studio, where anyone who gets married and can't pay thousands of shekels for a dress can get one from us without money. "

If you are interested in donating specifically to refugees from Ukraine, you can enlist the help of the Mamant Association - a mothers' league for dormitories in Kfar Saba, which is mobilized on their behalf in cooperation with the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption and the organization of friends.

The collection takes place from three points: Revivim School in Rishon Lezion, Ganei Tikva Council and Alfei Menashe Community Center.

"The mothers in the Mamant family joined the project and within a few days collected essential clothes and toys for the children for mothers and their families who fled the fighting," shares Ofra Abramovich, founder of the women's sports organization. "There was a response, and we received hundreds of items."

Recycle

H&M has a recycling project that began in 2013, and as part of it, it is possible to bring various textile items to the chain stores that are sent for recycling.

"Although many people think that only company items can be delivered, this is not the case," notes Gabriela Spiegelman, Communications and Sustainability Manager at the H&M Israel Group. If the product is usable, it is marketed to second-hand stores in Europe, and if it is of inferior quality, it is used to create inferior items, such as material for the automotive insulation industry, cloths, etc. If the garment cannot be reused, it is disassembled, turned into new fibers The news we produce. "

Where does the revenue from the project go?

"In Israel, they come to the 'Wish of the Heart' organization."

The consumer who delivers the garment also gets something?

"Absolutely. We give up to 4 discount vouchers of NIS 20 for purchases over NIS 150 per delivery, a voucher for each bag, which can be redeemed from the next purchase."

The Story chain also accepts used clothing items from all brands, and they are sold in a second-hand department called "Second Story", which is located in a store in Dizengoff Square.

It sells fashion items and accessories that are collected by the chain's staff twice a month on dates posted on social media, alongside items that were in fashion productions or with minor defects repaired.

The price range is NIS 400-50.

Catch: The items must be branded and suitable for the web vibe, and not sure they will be received.

In exchange for the items, the chain produces a gift card for purchase in Story, and the consideration varies depending on the pricing of the items.

"We hope to expand this move over time," says Uri Reiss, owner and CEO of 911 Fashion, to which the chain belongs. "Selling clothing that already exists after handling it is the most refined configuration of sustainability, and we identify a strong need for it."
